Among the vital things in running of a laptop RAM is one of the most important considerations.
What is RAM
Random access memory also known as RAM is temporary memory used in any computer basically to speed up the functioning of a computer. It's one of the best-known types of computer memory and one of the easiest parts of a computer for a user to upgrade. RAM has one of most important scale as it has the important job of storing information and making it available for other computer components to use. Whereas your hard disk drive stores large amounts of information for the long term, RAM operates on a more focused, short-term scale, maintaining information in a holding pattern of sorts so that it can be accessed quickly by the various programs and documents that you run.
RAM stores data only temporarily so that it can be processed quickly. It is mainly significant in applications requiring use of large memory like gaming and some CAD software etc… because the files used during these processes are normally much bigger those used in other processes. The size of RAM is a significant factor especially in these cases as many of them need high RAM for running the applications.
The size of RAM is important in the performance of laptop because the general rule is that more the size more easily and quickly will the data be able to be accessed and so more quickly and smoothly will the laptop run. In general all programs have a minimum RAM that should be there for the program to be used. The program may run with lower RAM but run slowly and may get stuck often. For good performance you need to have RAM above the minimum level prescribed by the program. Of course the higher RAM you have has side effects like higher power consumption.
RAM comes in various types while old computer uses DDR1 ram new ones use DDR2 and DDR3 chips. Newer chips use more efficient methods to transfer data and use less power. Each type of RAM comes in number of speeds and capacities. Faster and larger memory chips can process more information I a given period than slower ones.
How much RAM do you need is entirely up to you. Some use computing intensive applications such as CAD, video games, rendering engines, video editing, etc which demand more RAM. Some may use only Microsoft Office, watch DVD's and occasional Photoshop. Also some operating system s require more RAM than others like windows operating systems require more RAM than a Mac OS.
The general rule of thumb is more the RAM better is the performance but this is not he case always.
Most of the laptops have minimum and maximum values. So if you to use RAM that is not compatible with your mother board it is likely to cause operating problems. Games and likewise applications need normally up to 3GB RAM minimum to run them properly.
So before buying check if the RAM is compatible with your mother board or not. 32bit operating systems cannot recognize as much RAM as 64 bit operating systems. Now that you have come to know the importances of RAM in laptop don’t forget to choose your RAM according to your needs and update it properly.
For simple uses: Microsoft office, Photoshop - 512MB to 1GB
For high end uses: CAD, Video games, multitasking- 1GB to 4 GB
